🔼 Second Helpings. With the score tied at 7-7 early on Saturday, Wazzu piled up 41 unanswered points across six scoring drives to roll to a 48-7 victory over Duquesne in the 2026 home opener for the Cougs.
Caden Pinnick completed 17 of 22 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns and added 76 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Kirby Vorhees rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Maxwell Woods finished with 116 rushing yards on 11 carries and added three catches for 20 yards. Branden Ganashamoorthy caught four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.
The Cougs special teams unit was, well, special. Jaylen Thomas returned a punt 47 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter and Tank Hawkins followed that up with his own punt return for a TD, this one for 65 yards, to cap off the scoring.

🔼 Among The Elite. Racing among some of the best teams in the country at the John McNichols Invitational, the WSU cross country squads both earned top-five finishes at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, which will host the NCAA Championship race later this fall.
Freshman Millie Bii led the No. 21 Cougar women in the championship 6-kilometer race, finishing sixth overall with a time of 19:56.1. Sophomore Nelly Jemeli followed in 18th place at 20:28.7, while junior Caroline Jepkorir finished 25th in 20:43.7.
The No. 11 Washington State men earned fifth place in the championship 8-kilometer race with 212 points. Junior Evans Kurui led the Cougars with a fourth-place finish and a time of 23:37.6. Junior Solomon Kipchoge crossed the finish line three spots later, placing fifth in 23:47.7.

🔼 Sunday Standouts. Former WSU standouts were once again scattered across the NFL in Week 2, with several Cougars contributing to victories.
Abraham Lucas helped anchor Seattle’s offensive line as the Seahawks piled up 381 yards in a dominant 31–7 victory over Arizona. Jalen Thompson was part of a Dallas defense that helped the Cowboys pull away for a 37–20 win over Washington, while Kyle Williams and New England picked up their first victory of the season with a 20–3 win over Pittsburgh.
Tonight, Jaylen Watson and the Los Angeles Rams are set to square off with the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
