📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Show Stopper. Less than a month into the 2025 season, senior keeper Keara Fitzgerald of the WSU women’s soccer squad is making quite a name for herself.

After a shutout performance against Cal last week, the veteran keeper was named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Fitzgerald made a career-high 11 saves at California, Thursday, September 4, earning her first shutout of the season. The California native made the most saves by a Cougar goalkeeper since the rescheduled 2020 season and became the first WSU GK with 10+ saves since Pac-12 GK of the Year Nadia Cooper in 2021.

🔼 Dynamic Duo. Fitzgerald wasn’t the only Coug bringing home accolades this week.

WSU volleyball had two named to West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors with Lucie Blažková winning Offensive Player of the Week, and Eliana Ti'a winning Freshman of the Week.

Blažková played elite offense at the GCU Classic, contributing 53 kills while hitting .441. She added 63.0 total points and four assists, and on defense, 16.0 blocks including four solo blocks, and seven digs.

Ti'a continued her hot start to the season as she earns WCC Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week. She totaled 42 kills, 48.5 total points, 5.0 total blocks, 43 digs and four service aces.

🔼 Hitting The Road. One thing is for sure, defense travels.

And the Washington State football squad will look to pack those bags for the first time this season as the Cougs hit the road for a Saturday afternoon showdown with North Texas.

Through the first two weeks, WSU has limited opponents to 11.5 ppg, which ranks 30th in the country. The Cougs have allowed just 217 yards per game in the first two victories, which ranks in the top-20 nationally.

Kickoff is set for 12:35 pm.

🔼 Special K. The breakout season continues for former WSU baseball standout Kyle Manzardo.

Last week, Manzardo launched his 25th HR of the year for the Cleveland Guardians as he became just the third former Coug to reach 25+ home runs in a season, joining only Ron Cey and Ken Phelps in that accomplishment.

🤔 COUGAR TRIVIA

In Monday’s opening round of the Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico, Alice Johansson landed a one in hole to spark a first round 73 for the WSU women’s golf program.

Who was the last Coug to card a hole in one?
