🔼 Island Power. Before even officially putting on the WSU uniform, Cougar defensive lineman Jirah Leaupepetele has already made a name for himself.
This week, the Eastern Washington transfer was named to the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List.
Presented annually, the award honors the most outstanding college football player of Polynesian ancestry who exemplifies exceptional ability and integrity both on and off the field. Cougar defensive lineman Hercules Mata’afa won the award in 2017.

The PAC-12 Baseball Athlete of the Century will be forever enshrined at WSU’s Bailey-Brayton Field when the John Olerud Statue is officially unveiled on Friday, October 23rd.

That’s right, we are now just 1️⃣6️⃣ days away from the kickoff of the 2026 football season for the Cougs.
On Wednesday, we highlighted Gardner Minshew’s heroics at Wazzu.
Today, we highlight the other gunslinger to don the #1️⃣6️⃣ jersey, the legend himself, Ryan Leaf.
Leaf will forever be remembered as one of the greatest players in program history after earning Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year accolades and leading WSU to the 1998 Rose Bowl and a top-10 overall final ranking. He finished third in the Heisman voting and etched his name all over the Cougar record books.
Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of Wazzu Football this fall. The Cougs will take on Washington
in the Apple Cup on Sept. 6 in Seattle.
