🔼 Here To Stay. Coming off a championship spring, WSU Head Baseball Coach Nathan Choate has signed signed a three-year contract extension through the 2031 season, WSU Vice President and Director of Athletics Jon Haarlow announced this week.
This past season, Choate guided the Cougars to a 2026 Mountain West Conference Championship and the program's first trip back to the NCAA Tournament since 2010. Washington State finished the season with a 31-28 record, the most wins since the 2010 season, including WSU's first conference championship since 1976. In the classroom, WSU set a program record with a 3.45 team GPA in the 2025 fall semester, notched a 3.39 team GPA this past spring and had five Academic All-District selections.
Make your money work for you and your community.
🔼 Golden Boy. And the list of accolades continues to grow for WSU southpaw Nick Lewis.
This week, Lewis was named one of three finalists for a 2026 ABCA Rawlings Gold Glove by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Lewis, along with Ruger Riojas from Texas and Eric Segura from Oregon State are the three pitchers up for the national award presented annually to the top defensive players from each division of collegiate and high school baseball. Cougar third baseman Paul Gran is the only previous Gold Glove award winner after earning the award in 2008. The Gold Glove started in 2007.
🔼 Smarty Cats. This spring, a pair of WSU women’s rowing standouts earned accolades for not only their work on the water, but also in the classroom.
Sam Eden and Lis Ana Johansen were both named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team CSC on Tuesday morning.

🔼 Countin’ Down. Tick tock, tick tock, we’re getting closer and closer.
That’s right, we are just 81 days away from the kickoff of the 2026 football season for the Cougs.
Wearing #81 this upcoming season will be redshirt freshman Peyton Read, a 6-6, 230-pound tight end out of Portland, Ore.
Read, who redshirted last fall for the Cougs, has shown flashes throughout spring camp and will look to be a critical piece of the tight end room this upcoming 2026 season.
As a senior at Westview High School, Read hauled in 42 catches for 500 yards and four TDs, earning All-Metro League accolades.
Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of Wazzu Football this fall. The Cougs will take on Washington
in the Apple Cup on Sept. 6 in Seattle.
