🔼 Coming Up Roses. The storybook season for WSU sophomore Rosemary Longisa had quite an ending over the weekend at the 2026 NCAA Championships at iconic Hayward Field in Eugene.
Longisa cruised to the national championship in the 1500m on Saturday to become the first Cougar woman in program history to win the event, crossing the finish line in 4:12.10.
The Kenyan middle-distance runner controlled the race from start to finish, entering as the country's top qualifier in the event, and beating out the competition by nearly an entire second. Longisa won the first Cougar track individual title since 2011 when Jeshua Anderson won the 400-meter hurdles; and became the first Cougar woman to win a title since 2003 when Whitney Evans took the high jump championship.

🔼 And Another One. WSU distance runner Evans Kurui concluded his stellar sophomore season with a ninth-place finish in the 5,000m run final at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday evening.
The performance earned Kurui NCAA Second-Team All-America honors, becoming the first Cougar 5-kilometer All-American since fellow Kenyan countryman Bernard Lagat won the title in 1999.
Returning to the track for his second national final of the weekend, Kurui claimed a top-10 finish in his first-career 5,000-meter national championship, clocking a time of 13:51.49. The sophomore is the first Coug since 2008 to earn two All-America honors in the same postseason, when thrower McKenzie Garberg clinched national recognition in the discus and hammer throws.
🔼 The Latest Episode. A special edition of Inside WSU Athletics is now available as former Coug and NBA All-Rookie team honoree Cedric Coward stops by to reflect on his first season in the league and his time in Pullman.

🔼 Ring ‘Em. Four years into his NFL career, Abraham Lucas enjoyed the ultimate prize this past week, receiving his Super Bowl ring with the Seattle Seahawks at the team’s celebration.
Lucas, who signed a three-year contract extension last fall, is a cornerstone of Seattle’s offensive line.

🔼 Countin’ Down. Tick tock, tick tock, we’re getting closer and closer.
That’s right, we are just 83 days away from the kickoff of the 2026 football season for the Cougs.
Playing two seasons at Wazzu, Parker McKenna’s impact on the Cougs defensive unit was a major one. Last season, the linebacker led the squad in tackles with 83 and helped WSU to its first bowl victory since 2018.
During his two years in Pullman, McKenna racked up 122 tackles, three sacks and one INT.
Throughout the summer, we will be counting down the days
to the return of Wazzu Football this fall. The Cougs will take on Washington
in the Apple Cup on Sept. 6 in Seattle.
